SCI-TECH WORKSHOP: BOT BUILDING

Build your very own working robot! Using motors, screws, and recycled materials, and with some technical guidance, you’ll learn how to assemble and power-up your personalized robot to take home. FAMILY WORKSHOP: HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR

Kick the New Year off right! Join us and have fun exercising with a fitness instructor and learning about the types of food that are good for you. No reservation required and space is limited. Especially for our younger audience.


FUTURE CITY COMPETITION

8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Calling all builders and engineers! Come to the Sony Plaza Public Arcade to meet local seventh and eighth grade students participating in the 2012 National Engineers Week Future City Competition. Explore students’ one of a kind three dimensional models of their future city and learn about how they used the “Sim City” video game to help them develop their unique urban landscapes. Projects will be judged and awards will be presented to winners for excellence in a variety of categories. No reservation required.


TECH FOR TOTS: LEARNING WITH SOUNDS

Do you hear what I hear? Children explore some of the basic functions of the computer and discover different sounds that they hear every day. Then, they are given the opportunity to record their voice on an audio CD to take home. FAMILY WORKSHOP: YEAR OF THE DRAGON

Celebrate the year of the dragon with a colorful display of dragon tales and scales! Learn about Chinese New Year traditions and what the dragon symbolizes for the year ahead. Join us to uncover the fascinating world of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Participate in hands-on activities that explore the properties, structures, materials and scale of this important field of science. Also visit our interactive Nanotechnology Exhibit to learn about its various applications in use today. All activities require general admission to the Lab and are available on a first come, first served basis. No reservation required. Best suited for ages 7 and up.


FAMILY WORKSHOP: ANIMAL FACES

Explore the different facial and physical characteristics of animals! Then, make the animal of your choice come alive by creating your very own animal puppet to take home. No reservation required and space is limited. Especially for our younger audience.

Create a flower like no other! One that will never die or even wilt...because it runs on batteries! Using LEDs, fiber optics, colored cellophane and some technical know-how, you can design and power-up your very own colorful electronic flower to take home!
